As the Philadelphia Eagles continue to build up their roster for the 2026 NFL season through free agency, general manager Howie Roseman is beginning to put all the puzzle pieces together this offseason.
While the Eagles have not made much noise this week, the organization has still managed to sign a few key players, including former Seattle Seahawks defensive back Riq Woolen, to a one-year deal worth up to $15 million. In addition to Woolen, Philadelphia was also reportedly in the running for star EDGE Trey Hendrickson before he signed a massive four-year, $112 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday.
Now, with the first wave of free agents finding a new home this week, the Eagles could consider making a move on the offensive side of the ball. Wide receiver AJ Brown has made it clear that he is dissatisfied with his role, and depending on whether or not Roseman moves on from the veteran, a second wide receiver alongside DeVonta Smith will become a top priority for the organization.
Luckily for the front office, the answer could lie in free agency soon enough with San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk potentially hitting the market this week.
San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (Steven Bisig-Imagn Images)Aiyuk, a former first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the 49ers, has had an NFL career full of ups and downs.
After spending his first two seasons developing within head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system, the highly-touted playmaker had a breakout season in 2022, recording his first-ever 1,000-yard season. This was followed by an impressive 2023 campaign, when Aiyuk finished the year with a career-high 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
However, his progress was quickly broken down during the 2024 season, as he would play in just seven games after tearing his ACL and MCL. And despite him missing the entire 2025 season, Aiyuk was still under contract since he landed a huge four-year, $120 million extension before last season.
With San Francisco’s recent signing of longtime star wideout Mike Evans this week, NFL reporter Nick Wagoner stated on Wednesday that Aiyuk is likely to be cut by the 49ers, making him a potential free agent target for the Eagles.
Depending on whether Roseman finds a suitor for Brown, Aiyuk could be exactly what Philadelphia’s offense could desire without the likes of their star wide receiver.
