Yesterday in the NFL, the legal tampering window opened up, which allows teams to agree to deals without them officially being signed. After day one, it was not looking good for Howie Roseman and the Eagles.
Granted, they were able to extend Jordan Davis before this all started, which was a fantastic move. Yesterday, however, proved to be a rough one for the organization in terms of keeping top talent in the building.
The Eagles lost Jaelan Phillips, Nakobe Dean, Reed Blankenship, and Jahon Dotson all to opposing teams.
Now, there were benefits to losing some of these players, like compensatory draft picks being awarded, as well as avoiding overpaying for some of these players, like Phillips making $120M over 4 years.
Regardless, it didn't look good to only lose players all day from an optics standpoint. Today, however, the Eagles not only made their first signing of free agency, but they knocked it out of the park.

Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn ImagesIt was announced today that the Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Seattle Seahawks CB Riq Woolen to a 1 year deal worth up to $15M.
This is quite the get for Howie Roseman and the Eagles. Woolen is coming off a Super Bowl-winning season where he was an integral piece in not just the best defense last season, but one of the more dominant defenses in recent league history.
Woolen was a Pro Bowl selection his rookie year and has been a force at the position throughout his brief time in the league. In his four years in Seattle, he recorded 12 interceptions and was consistently one of the highest graded corners in the league.
Woolen was considered one of the top two corners available in free agency and for good reason.
At 6'4 210lbs, Woolen is a physical presence out near the sidelines, and his ability, paired with length, allows him to cause problems in man press. Next season, when the Eagles are able to trot out guys like Cooper DeJean, Quinyon Mitchell, and Riq Woolen, it's going to be a problem for the WRs lining up in front of them.
