The Atlanta Falcons are seeing a whole lot of road fans come to their building.
The Atlanta Falcons are headed into another home game this week against one of the best teams in football. If the way Mercedes-Benz Stadium has looked over the first portion of the season is any indication, there may be a whole lot of road fans again.
While this is frustrating for Falcons fans who do spend the time and money to come out and cheer on Atlanta, it's hard to blame those who don't. Tickets have never been more expensive, parking gets more and more absurd every year, and most importantly, the team has not put a winning product on the field in a decade with this year looking no different.
During a segment on 680 The Fan, longtime area host Chris Dimino put it fairly bluntly in his assessment that fans are simply fed up and over it.
Falcons Fans May Be "Officially Fed Up"
"If I look to my left, I look to my right, down three rows, it's all Bears fans," Dimino said of his experience in the loss to Chicago. "Two primetime [wins] built no confidence in this organization....if I have an [away] team that comes in and pays over price, I'm gonna sell to them."
It seems many season ticket sellers are unloading their seats onto away fans who quite simply are willing to pay more than Atlanta fans are right now, which the Falcons fans simply cannot be blamed for. Even though it looked like the team was turning a corner in their two wins, the last two weeks showed just how long they have to go still, and it's tough to blame folks for not wanting to show up and watch this team continue to lose games.
Going up against an undefeated San Francisco 49ers this week and likely to be beaten, the expectation is that the stadium looks the same. As for what the solution is to this issue, there is really only one.
Win.
Falcons fans have grown cold, and until this team proves to its fans that it's a product worth spending time and money on, Atlanta is going to have a tough time convincing them why this franchise is worth showing up for week in and week out.
The rebuild is going to be a long process here moving forward, but until there's a better product on the field, the fans cannot be blamed for not wanting to support it.
