The Atlanta Falcons had better get ready quickly.
The Atlanta Falcons were defeated on Sunday Night Football by the Baltimore Ravens in a game which will be discussed by fans for a long time moving forward after the way they found a way to lose.
Against a backup quarterback with a chance to take control of the NFC South, Atlanta squandered a fourth quarter lead and Michael Penix Jr. got hurt only to not return and have Tua Tagovailoa lose the game with a horrific overtime interception. While the injury report will be followed closely as the Falcons are clearly desperate to have Penix on the field, either way, it's time to turn the page and pivot quickly.
This is a week to week league, and the schedule does not get any easier moving forward with two of the main NFC contenders up the next two weeks. As the best team in football looms in Week 7 with the San Francisco 49ers coming to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Chicago Bears will arrive this week looking to avenge a blowout defeat of their own this week against the Green Bay Packers.
Bears Coming Off Brutal Loss of Their Own
Losing 31-7 to their hated rival, the Bears are going to be looking for revenge and likely see the Falcons as a very realistic spot to win.
Chicago has been without their starting quarterback as well, but it seems Caleb Williams has a very realistic chance at playing this week after missing the last several weeks with a hamstring injury. Whether he plays or not though, the Bears have proven to be dangerous, and as Sunday Night showed, facing a backup does not guarantee success.
Assuming Penix is in fact healthy and ready to go this week, this is a very challenging matchup against one of the best teams in the NFC but absolutely one to which Atlanta is capable of winning.
Now at 2-3 and a half game behind the Carolina Panthers who had a bye this week, a win like this would go a long way towards being able to win the NFC South and make the playoffs for the first time in a very long time. Missing Penix would be nothing short of a disaster, but either way, it's time to move on from the loss and start getting ready for another difficult opponent at home.
Atlanta is capable of winning this game, but they cannot dwell on the past and must look to the future.
