The Atlanta Falcons could solve the quarterback issue with this arm.

The Atlanta Falcons have been the subject of football over the course of the last several months as the quarterback situation has not gotten much closer to a solution being found.

With Michael Penix Jr. not likely to return in Week 2 and Tua Tagovailoa's status a mystery with an oblique issue that could derail his entire season, the vibes around the team are not good right now, especially if Cooper Rush needs to start another game. It's worth asking at this point whether or not Atlanta could look to bring someone else in and upgrade the room.

In a recent article talking about trade block possibilities across the league, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named the Falcons as a potential fit for San Francisco 49ers backup QB and former first round selection Mac Jones.

Atlanta Named Potential Fit for Mac Jones Trade

"Jones is practically guaranteed to depart in 2027 free agency. He could potentially net a big haul from a playoff hopeful in search of a starting quarterback," Knox said as for the explanation as to why San Francisco could look to move on from one of the best backups in football.

While Jones would potentially cost a pretty penny for a team to acquire him during the season and Knox suspecting a conditional second round draft pick, the Falcons belief in him being able to elevate this team to contention in the division could make that price worth it.

Jones actually did play last season against Atlanta during his impressive run for the injured Brock Purdy, and while he did not have the best game, he led the 49ers to a 20-10 victory over Atlanta.

How viable something like this could become really depends entirely on what the status of both Tagovailoa and Penix is. While the Tagovailoa injury does seem potentially serious, Penix is supposedly nearing a return and just taking some extra time to be sure he is fully ready to go.

Unless Penix were to suffer some sort of setback, riding it out over the next week or two seems like the logical way for the Falcons to go about this very difficult situation.

If it goes from bad to worse though here over the course of the next week or two, perhaps a trade would make some sense, and a player like Jones could be the perfect guy for Atlanta to target.
