The Atlanta Falcons are making it happen for their young QB.

The Atlanta Falcons have won two games in a row and looked great doing it, and a huge part of the reason for that is Michael Penix Jr. returning to the lineup healthy and being able to provide a jolt to the offense.

Over the first two weeks of the year, the quarterback play for Atlanta was as bad as it gets, but Penix has been steady and solid since getting back on the field. He has not lit the world on fire statistically, but Atlanta has not needed him to and he has done exactly what the coaching staff has asked of him. Clearly, that has not gone unnoticed.

While speaking to the media on Thursday, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees not only praised what the lefty has been able to do so far, but also clarified that as coaches, they are absolutely designing the offense around what he does well.

Rees Says Penix Has Been Playing Great, and Coaches Are Helping

"Mike’s able to do a lot of things on the football field," Rees said via Daniel Flick of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "So, we're going to continue to build around him, what he does well, and try to unlock the things that he can do really well."

Penix has clearly not yet scratched the surface of what it is he's capable of doing as this team's quarterback, but Rees and the rest of the staff have done a great job of not letting him get put into poor situations either. Against the Saints, it was a relatively modest night for Penix with just 20 passing attempts, but with the way this team was running the ball, that was all that was needed to win the football game.

Rees is among the best young football minds in the league, and the chance to work with Penix has clearly been something he has been a big fan of. If Penix and Rees can take that next step together, the sky could be the limit for the capabilities of this offense.

For that to happen, the duo will have to stay on the same page and doing a great job with communication, play calling, decision making and much more. Penix is trying to prove he is this team's quarterback of the future, and while there is still much work to do on that front, winning football games is the best way to do that.

So far, that's all Penix has done since coming back, and Rees is a huge part of the reason why that has indeed been the case.
