The Atlanta Falcons are just days away from their third game of the season on Thursday Night Football this week against the Green Bay Packers after fielding a team which simply was not competitive on offense the first two weeks.

Sunday afternoon was a new low for the franchise, getting absolutely humiliated in their home opener by the Carolina Panthers 34-3, and through two games, the team has not taken a single offensive snap from inside the red zone. Much of the reasoning for this has been due to the quarterback situation and having to play 3rd and 4th stringers there, which has fans desperate for an answer what the plan is.

Given reports have surfaced that Michael Penix Jr. could make his return to the lineup this week, head coach Kevin Stefanski was once again elusive in giving any sort of answer to media Monday as to whether that will actually be the case or not. This move was made even stranger by the fact that later on Monday, Penix was indeed named the starter for Thursday night.

Stefanski meets with the media every Monday, and while he did admit he has a "decent" idea of who is going to be starting this week, he certainly was not eager to share it with the media and in turn, the fanbase.

Now that Penix is back, there will be optimism, but it feels like Stefanski missed an opportunity to be open with the fanbase.

The problem here is that this team is not putting out a product worthy of fan support over the first two weeks, so dodging the question even when it seems he may know which way Atlanta is going to go is an insult to the fans who sat in Mercedes-Benz Stadium this weekend to watch that abomination.

Part of this is out of Stefanski's control, but in the early portion of his tenure in charge of the franchise, he certainly is not doing himself any kind of favors with the fanbase. Transparency, even if the news is not what they want to hear, goes a long way, and the team has been anything but that throughout the last couple of months.

The Falcons have refused to provide answers, and after the way they played over the first couple of weeks, it feels like answers are owed. Now that Penix has been announced, perhaps folks will forget about the first two weeks as it relates to Stefanski, but it's unfortunate he could not just say that.

Fans are not happy right now, and they should not be. Now, this team is under as close a microscope as ever headed into Green Bay this Thursday.
