NFL owners unanimously approved the Jaguars’ temporary move to Orlando for the 2027 season while EverBank Stadium undergoes $1.4B renovations, boosting local economic impact.

The vote to approve the Jacksonville Jaguars’ move to Orlando, Fla., for the 2027 season proved to be just a formality as the 32 owners of the NFL unanimously approved the team’s temporary relocation while renovations are completed at EverBank Stadium.

During the NFL’s annual league meeting on March 31 in Phoenix, the league’s owners voted 32-0 for the Jaguars to move to Orlando’s Camping World Stadium to play most of their home games during scheduled final stages of the $1.4 billion renovations to EverBank.

Gainesville’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was also considered as a possible temporary home but leaders in Orlando cleared a $10 million sports-incentive package and are also renovating the nearly 100-year-old stadium with a $400 million facelift to modernize the venue, according to the Associated Press.

Officials in Orlando and Orange County have estimated the temporary move could generate $160 million in economic impact for the area.

Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan said Orlando was the best option.

“The Jaguars couldn’t ask for a better scenario than Orlando and Camping World Stadium as our temporary home in 2027,” Khan said in a press release. “This couldn’t have happened without the endorsement of the league and team owners who approved our plan two years ago for a renovated Stadium of the Future in Downtown Jacksonville, and we’re especially appreciative of the support of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the process.

“We’re also grateful to the team at Florida Citrus Sports that made this solution a reality that will benefit all, including Jaguars fans just a few hours away in Jacksonville. This is a win that everyone can celebrate.”

The Camping World renovations will include increasing the capacity to a minimum of 65,000, upgrading luxury suites and other improvements which will be completed in summer 2027.

The stadium has been home to the Citrus Bowl, Cure Bowl and Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Although the Jaguars have a winning percentage above .500 all-time at EverBank, since 2013, Jacksonville has become accustomed to playing “away” from home, playing in at least one international game every season.

In 14 international games, the Jaguars have been the designated home team 12 times and are 7-7 in games outside of Duval County.

Jacksonville has won three of its last five games abroad and will be looking to carry over that success in the next two seasons.

Since 2021 the Jaguars are 16-24 in road games and are 0-2 in road games against in-state rivals Tampa Bay and Miami.

The renovations for EverBank are expected to be completed in summer 2028 and will include a reflective roof that covers 90 percent of seating, renovated concourses and technological improvements throughout.
