The Jacksonville Jaguars get their replacement for DT DaVon Hamilton in a proposed trade from The Athletic.
With the NFL trade deadline only a few days away, the Jacksonville Jaguars have important decisions to make as they make a push to reach the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
Will the Jaguars trade or keep wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.?
Is Jacksonville going to make a move at safety? Starter Eric Murray is out for the season, and third safety Caleb Ransaw is also on injured reserve, with a return this season not guaranteed. If Jacksonville is looking to trade for a safety, there are several who should be available on the trade market, and one who was recently released that the Jaguars should avoid at all costs.
However, the biggest issue the Jaguars must overcome is arguably standout defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton’s season-ending torn quad injury. Hamilton was a huge part of Jacksonville’s top-ranked run defense, and replacing him will be no easy task. There are a few DTs I believe the team should target in a trade to help fill the void left by Hamilton’s injury.
The Athletic has the Jaguars finding their replacement for Hamilton by trading for a DT not included in my top targets.
In the proposed deal, Jacksonville sends its 2027 third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for DT Moro Ojomo.
The Athletic had the Jaguars outbidding both the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers, who each offered the Eagles a fourth-round pick.
What Ojomo Would Bring To Jaguars
Ojomo is a much different type of interior defensive lineman than Hamilton. At only 292 pounds, he isn't the space eater who demands double teams like the 335-pound Hamilton is. That is the main reason I left him off my list of top targets.
Ojomo is quicker and plays a different style than Hamilton. At only 25 years old, Ojomo is considered one of the most attractive players who could be available at the deadline.
But, is he a good fit for Jacksonville’s defense?
If the Jaguars are looking for someone who can come in and replicate Hamilton’s role, Ojomo may not be the right choice.
Hamilton was PFF’s 10th-highest-graded DT in run defense. Ojomo’s run defense grade is only 57.1, which ranks 56th out of 128 qualified interior defensive linemen.
Ojomo has upside as a pass rusher. Although he hasn’t recorded a sack this season, he had six in 2025. However, those were the only sacks of his four-year career.
This season, Ojomo’s pass-rush grade of 56.5 is only 96th among IDL. His overall grade of 57.6 ranks only 73rd.
Better Options Available
Ojomo’s play this season doesn’t seem worth giving up a third-round pick for, especially when there are better options available on the trade market.
It is possible Ojomo could take a significant leap playing in Anthony Campanile’s defense. The Eagles are 2-6, have lost six in a row, and have generally had a lot of negative vibes surrounding the team for a long time.
Playing for a contender like Jacksonville could jump-start Ojomo’s season, but it would be a risk.
Final Verdict
I believe this proposed trade would be a bad idea for the Jaguars.
Ojomo would be a better fit playing alongside Hamilton, not replacing him.
Jacksonville needs someone who will help the run defense remain elite without Hamilton, and I don’t believe Ojomo is that guy.
General manager James Gladstone should look elsewhere if he is planning on making a trade to replace Hamilton.
