Jaguars Have Impressive Streak Come to an End in Win Over Ravens

The Jaguars dominated the Ravens in a 33-10 victory, but saw an impressive 24-game streak come to an end.

The Jacksonville Jaguars barely had to break a sweat in their 33-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

The offense got off to a fast start, with a one-yard touchdown run by Bhayshul Tuten capping off a surgical opening drive.

A 50-yard TD strike from Trevor Lawrence to Parker Washington put Jacksonville up 17-3, and the outcome was never in doubt after that.

Heading into the game, the biggest story was Baltimore’s two-time MVP quarterback, Lamar Jackson, likely being out for the season after suffering a thumb injury on the first snap last week against the Buffalo Bills.

Jackson’s backup, Tyler Huntley, also had his season come to an end with a serious turf toe injury shortly after replacing Jackson last week.

That left undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano to make his first NFL start against the Jaguars.

Things did not go well for the rookie.

Fagnano completed only 10 of his 18 passes for a paltry 60 yards. He threw a pair of interceptions as Baltimore’s passing offense could do nothing all night.

As expected, the Ravens leaned heavily on their rushing attack against Jacksonville. Baltimore ran the ball 34 times for a terrific 172 yards against the Jaguars’ top-ranked run defense.

Though most of those yards came late, well after the game had been decided, the Ravens were able to end an impressive streak by Jacksonville’s defense.

The Jaguars saw their 24-game streak of not allowing a 75-yard rusher come to an end in the Baltimore rain.

Not Derrick Henry

The first of my five keys to a Jaguars victory was that Jacksonville had to stop superstar running back Derrick Henry on Thursday night.

Without Jackson, the Ravens were going to need their future Hall of Famer to have a huge night if they were to have any chance at pulling off the upset.

Jacksonville held Henry in check all night. The Yulee, FL, native, who grew up a Jaguars fan, could only muster 57 yards on 17 carries.

Due to the score, Henry’s night ended early, paving the way for a running back nobody expected to end Jacksonville’s streak.

Backup Justice Hill carved up the Jaguars’ defense for 85 rushing yards on only nine carries, punctuated by a 65-yard TD scamper with only 7:15 to go in the game to set the final score.

Although the Jaguars will happily take the win, it sucks to see the streak come to an end, especially because of a play that had no impact on the game whatsoever.

Final Thoughts

Even though the Jaguars did a good job against Henry, the 172 rushing yards they gave up were almost 100 more than the 77.4 yards per game they had allowed over the first seven games.

The defense clearly missed run-stuffing defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton, who is out for the season with a torn quad.

The NFL’s trade deadline is next Tuesday. Baltimore’s success on the ground proves that the Jaguars must make a move to help alleviate the loss of Hamilton.

There are several defensive tackles I believe the team should be targeting in a trade. The Athletic proposed a trade for a different DT, a trade I believe would be a mistake for Jacksonville to make.

The next few days promise to very interesting.

What will the Jaguars do before the deadline?

We will find out soon enough.
