Jaguars’ HC Coen Talks About Brian Thomas Jr. Getting Back Into WR Rotation
Oct 27, 2026 2:33 AM

After being benched for the second half of Jacksonville's last game, it sounds like Brian Thomas Jr. will get another chance when the Jaguars take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.

The Jacksonville Jaguars just enjoyed a well-earned week off after a difficult six-game stretch to open the season.

The Jaguars had plenty of success before the bye week, going 4-2 and opening up a two-game lead in the AFC South.

Even without playing, Jacksonville saw its lead in the division increase in Week 7, as all three division rivals lost on Sunday. Both the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts are now 2-5, while the lowly Tennessee Titans dropped to 1-6.

Jacksonville returns from the bye week fresh, rested, and knowing the hardest part of its schedule is already in the rearview mirror.

Up next is a home matchup with the Colts, giving the Jaguars an opportunity to widen their lead in the division.

Everything is lined up for Jacksonville not only to return to the playoffs, but possibly earn the AFC's top seed, ensuring the road to the Super Bowl must go through Jacksonville.

However, the Jaguars must figure out what to do with embattled wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

Thomas is once again the subject of constant trade speculation, and this time it feels like his time in Jacksonville may be coming to an end.

The NFL’s trade deadline is November 10, and there are plenty of players potentially available who could really help the Jaguars down the stretch and then go on a long playoff run.

If Jacksonville makes Thomas available, there will be no shortage of teams interested in trading for the talented 24-year-old.

Right now, Thomas is still a Jaguar, and head coach Liam Coen talked about the struggling WR getting back into the receiving rotation after being benched for the second half in Week 6.

Coen is confident BTJ will step up this week and help the Jaguars earn an important division win over the Colts.  When the second-year coach was asked what Thomas must do to get back in the rotation, Coen answered by saying every week is a new week, likely meaning BTJ will get a shot to redeem himself. He also said the team must put Thomas in the best position to succeed and thinks that will happen against Indianapolis.

"He's going to be able to help us make plays this week...We're gonna continue to support him and put our arm around him..."

Final Thoughts

The Jaguars have only two more games before the trade deadline, so Thomas is running out of time to prove to the organization that he is worth keeping and can be an important piece of a Super Bowl run.

If Thomas can finally make an impact on the field, maybe the Jaguars will hold onto him, but I believe it is still more likely than not that BTJ will be on a different team after the deadline passes.

Thomas had three catches for 40 yards in each of Jacksonville's first two games. In the last four games, he has a total of three catches for 25 yards and has only one touchdown this season.

However, it certainly sounds like BTJ will be back on the Colts on Sunday. Hopefully, Thomas can prove his coach right and make at least a few plays that will help the Jaguars pick up yet another win.
