The talented WR’s future in Jacksonville is in doubt. Here are the four most likely teams he could be traded to.

Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr’s future with the Jacksonville Jaguars has been brought back into the spotlight.

The talented 24-year-old continues to struggle badly in Jacksonville and is seeing his playing time decrease significantly. In Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans, Thomas had two more drops and was benched for the entire second half.

Thomas was held without a catch for the second straight week and has only three total receptions over Jacksonville’s last four games.

It is clear that BTJ no longer has the confidence or trust of his coaches or his quarterback.

Thomas remains an incredibly talented receiver, but he looks completely broken in Jacksonville. It may be best for both the Jaguars and Thomas if he gets a fresh start somewhere else.

BTJ was the subject of nonstop trade speculation all offseason, but the team refused to give up on him, believing he would return to the star he was as a rookie in 2024.

For his part, Thomas looked great this offseason, leading many to predict a bounce-back season was forthcoming.

Instead, BTJ’s struggles from last season have continued. Through six games, Thomas has only nine catches for 105 yards and one touchdown.

With the emergence of rookie WR Josh Cameron and two-way phenom Travis Hunter possibly getting more looks on offense, trade rumors are heating up again.

Here are the four most likely landing spots if the Jaguars decide to trade BTJ.

Four Likely Destinations

1. Washington Commanders: The Commanders are in last place in the NFC East at 1-4-1, but only two games behind the first-place New York Giants, who are 3-2-1.

Even though they are in last place, there is an opportunity for the Commanders to win the division. The Giants have already lost their starting QB, Jaxon Dart, for the season. Backup Jameis Winston has seemingly been benched in favor of Vikings’ bust J.J. McCarthy. The Philadelphia Eagles have lost Jalen Hurts for the season and are facing severe criticism for the way they handled their QB’s blood clot issue. The Dallas Cowboys continue to be the Dallas Cowboys: plenty of talent on offense, terrible defense, disappointing record.

Washington could also reunite BTJ with Jayden Daniels. The two had a special connection when they played together at LSU.

The Commanders have also just lost their star WR, Terry McLaurin, to a season-ending knee injury. They could also include DT Daron Payne in the trade. Payne would be a terrific addition to Jacksonville’s defensive line.

2. Los Angeles Rams: Before the season started, many people treated the Rams winning the Super Bowl as a foregone conclusion, and the regular season was a mere formality.

LA created a superteam this offseason. They traded for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and star cornerback Trent McDuffie, and got DT Aaron Donald, one of the greatest players in NFL history, to come out of retirement.

Things haven’t worked out the way the Rams envisioned. They currently have a 2-4 record, sit in last place in the NFC West after losing at home to the Arizona Cardinals as 13.5-point favorites, and just lost star WR Davante Adams for 6-10 weeks with a hamstring injury.

I’m not sure if the Rams have any draft picks left this decade, but I’m sure the two sides could work something out.

3. Los Angeles Chargers: The Chargers can’t even escape the Rams’ shadow enough to be called the most disappointing team in LA.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. The Chargers were supposed to be a Super Bowl contender, and this was the year Justin Herbert would finally take that next step from really good to MVP, especially with new OC Mike McDaniel.

Instead, they are 0-6. The offense is abysmal. Herbert has regressed badly. McDaniel might not make it through his first season with the team. Oh, and Ladd McConkey can’t stay healthy.

Trading for BTJ probably makes no difference for this season for LA, but he would certainly add talent to what may be the worst WR room in the NFL.

4. New York Giants: The Giants are a surprise first-place team and have an opportunity to capitalize on the woes of their NFC East rivals.

They also have issues of their own, especially at QB and RB.

But they certainly could use another WR to pair with star Malik Nabers. Right now, rookie Malachi Fields is the only other WR on the team with more than eight catches (12). Tight end Isaiah Likely has 39.

A duo of Nabers and BTJ, who were unstoppable together at LSU, could turn the Giants into heavy favorites to win the NFC East.

Other AFC Contenders

The Buffalo Bills have also emerged as a serious contender in the BTJ sweepstakes. The Bills are constantly trying to add WRs for their alien QB Josh Allen, and traded for DJ Moore this offseason to be their WR1. Thomas could be a perfect complement and give Allen another extremely talented weapon.

The Kansas City Chiefs have also been rumored to be interested in Thomas. Rashee Rice is injured again, while Xavier Worthy hasn’t quite developed as hoped. Travis Kelce has found the fountain of youth so far this season. Adding Thomas to KC’s offense could make them unstoppable.

However, the Bills and Chiefs are the two biggest obstacles the Jaguars will have to overcome in order to reach their first Super Bowl. Trading BTJ to either team would be incredibly risky and could easily come back to haunt Jacksonville. I don’t see GM James Gladstone taking that risk.
