Despite fans clamoring for more Travis Hunter on offense, Jacksonville Jaguars’ HC Liam Coen won’t deviate from the team’s plan for the two-way star.

When a player is as special and talented as Travis Hunter, no matter how much he accomplishes on the field, everyone wants more.

Not in a way that expresses disappointment, but rather because everyone believes he is capable of doing more.

To be fair, he probably is.

In the Jacksonville Jaguars' Week 4 road victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, Hunter was outstanding. It was probably the best game of his young career, and the second week in a row that was the case.

In a game that saw superstar Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow throw for 428 yards, Hunter stepped up in a big way, earning a terrific 86.9 coverage grade from PFF and an 86.4 overall grade.

Hunter was targeted in coverage seven times, only giving up four receptions for a paltry 26 yards. He broke up two passes and showed off his physical side on his four total tackles.

As good as Hunter was in the game, his most memorable play didn't even count.

Burrow attempted to hit star receiver Tee Higgins on a deep shot. Hunter was having none of it. He easily picked off the pass before reminding everyone what he can do with the ball in his hands. Hunter broke Higgins' ankles with a video game-like juke and sprinted downfield for a long return.

Unfortunately for Hunter and the Jaguars, the game-changing play was wiped out by a roughing-the-passer penalty. However, Hunter's unreal ability to wreck a game was on full display.

The interception was great, but it was the return that dropped jaws. Watching the movie Hunter put on Higgins made everyone wonder how the Jaguars can keep this guy on the sidelines when on offense.

Hunter may be Jacksonville's most talented offensive weapon, but he has only seen 16 snaps on offense all season. The Cincinnati game was the first time in Hunter's career that he did not play a single snap on offense.

Head coach Liam Coen was asked whether seeing Hunter's juke of Higgins would make him want to get the 23-year-old the ball more and start giving his second-year phenom more opportunities on offense.

Coen had a couple of laughs, but made it clear that the Jaguars have a plan for Hunter and they are sticking to it.

“What you guys want more of, and I get it, but look at the last two weeks: what he’s been able to do while we stay firm on the plan. So will it come? Absolutely.”

Final Thoughts

As much excitement as Hunter could bring to the offense, it’s hard to argue with how the Jaguars are using him.

One week after Hunter was excellent in Jacksonville’s 35-6 destruction of the New England Patriots, which included his first-career interception, he was even better against the Bengals.

Hunter played a career-high 76 snaps against Cincinnati, and showed his ability to be a true shutdown corner.

Hunter is quickly becoming one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks and has proven he can make just as big an impact, if not bigger, on defense as he could on offense.

Maybe we will see more of Hunter on offense as the season progresses, but it's obvious that the Jaguars' plan is working.
