For at least one week, the Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence fell back to Earth.

This past Sunday on the road against the Denver Broncos, the Jaguars saw their nine-game regular-season winning streak come to an end. Jacksonville seemed in control for much of the game. The Jags held a 13-3 lead well into the third quarter, only to fall 20-13.

Up 13-6, Lawrence, who had done such an impressive job of taking care of the football throughout the winning streak, threw a terrible interception that completely changed the game. Lawrence took full responsibility for the pick after the game and vowed to be better in the future.

Though it was just one game, the loss to Denver revealed a troubling issue for Lawrence. He has not been able to execute under pressure, completing under 40% of his passes this season while under duress, compared to 76.9% when not pressured.

Jacksonville's offensive line is a work in progress, with three starters playing different positions than they did a year ago and rookie Emmanuel Pregnon taking over the starting left guard job. The line is expected to get better as the season progresses, but a brutal stretch of upcoming games puts the burden on it to resolve its issues quickly.

Lawrence's issues under pressure and mediocre showing against Denver have caused him to fall in quarterback rankings. Nick Shook of NFL.com had Lawrence up to fourth prior to Week 2, but has dropped him six spots to 10th in his rankings for Week 3.

In Shook's original weekly rankings heading into Week 1, Lawrence was part of a large group of quarterbacks ranked in Shook's second tier. However, a surgical, four-touchdown performance in Jacksonville's opener saw Lawrence placed in Tier 1 before the game against the Broncos.

Now Lawrence is back down to Tier 2 for this week's showdown against the New England Patriots, who have only given up a total of 16 points through two games.

Shook points to Lawrence's disappointing second half against Denver as a direct factor in Jacksonville losing the game.

"Trevor Lawrence was incredibly sharp early in Denver, fitting passes into tight windows and pushing the Jaguars offense forward. His dropoff in the second half was disappointing, though, and contributed directly to Jacksonville’s defeat."

Lawrence and the offense are looking to get back on track this week against another AFC powerhouse. For a team still learning how to handle success and high expectations, how the Jaguars are able to respond after a loss will go a long way toward determining how successful their season will be.

According to head coach Liam Coen, he already sees a sense of urgency from his offense in practice this week. That is exactly what one would hope for after a loss.

If the Jaguars are to knock off the Patriots this Sunday, Lawrence will need to play much better than he did in the second half against the Broncos. If he does, and Jacksonville wins, it is very possible that Lawrence will rise back into Shook's top tier in next week's rankings.
