Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski is getting a second interview this week with the Cleveland Browns for their vacant head-coach position, according to multiple reports.
Udinski, who had a virtual interview with the Browns on Saturday, will next meet with team officials in person.
That signals legitimate interest by the Browns in Udinski and increases the possibility that Udinski will leave the Jaguars after just one season.
If hired, Udinski, who's 30, would become the youngest head coach in NFL history. Sean McVay was just two weeks shy of his 31st birthday when he was hired in 2017 by the Los Angeles Rams.
Udinski is one of six candidates who have moved into the second round of interviews. Also in the mix are Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen hired Udinski away from the Minnesota Vikings when putting together his staff last year. Udinski spent three seasons in Minnesota under head coach Kevin O'Connell as assistant offensive coordinator in 2024, assistant quarterbacks coach in 2023-2024 and assistant to the head coach and special projects in 2022.
Udinski began his coaching career in 2019 as a graduate assistant at Baylor. He made the jump to the NFL in 2020 as a coaching assistant with the Carolina Panthers under head coach Matt Rhule.
Udinski did not call plays for the Jaguars in 2025 and has never called plays at the NFL level, but he is well-respected by players. He played a key role in the development this season of quarterback Trevor Lawrence, along with Coen and quarterbacks coach Spencer Whipple. Udinski would likely handle the play-calling duties for the Browns, if he takes over as head coach.
The Browns fired Kevin Stefanski, who twice earned Coach of the Year while in Cleveland (2020, 2023), on Jan. 5 after the team finished 5-12. On Saturday, the Atlanta Falcons announced Stefanski as their new head coach.
If Udinski decamps for Cleveland, the Jaguars would be left to find another offensive coordinator. They do have a coach on staff with four years of experience at the position -- pass game coordinator Shane Waldron.
Waldron spent three seasons (2021-2023) running the offense for the Seattle Seahawks under then-head coach Pete Carroll. He also worked under head coach Matt Eberflus as offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2024.
Waldron's offenses in Seattle ranked near the middle of the pack, however, his offense in Chicago ranked 30th before he was let go after nine games.
He could have better luck in Jacksonville; he wouldn't have the play-calling responsibility. Coen would keep that.
The Jaguars have both Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile in the mix for head-coach positions. On Saturday, Campanile interviewed with the Miami Dolphins for their coach job, vacated with the Jan. 8 firing of Mike McDaniel.
