Travis Hunter finally gets an extended opportunity on offense and makes a big impact. Unfortunately, Hunter’s efforts came in a heartbreaking loss

This was the Travis Hunter everyone envisioned when he came into the NFL.

Hunter, who starred in college as both a full-time wide receiver and a full-time cornerback, has usually been one or the other during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As a rookie, Hunter was used mostly at receiver before a knee injury cut his season short after only seven games.

This year has been the exact opposite, with Hunter being a full-time CB and barely seeing the field on offense.

On Sunday, Hunter finally got involved in the offense as well as getting his usual workload on defense.

Hunter played only nine snaps at receiver, but certainly made the most of them, catching a season-high four passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. The TD was only the second of Hunter's career, both coming inside Wembley Stadium.

Hunter showed what he can bring to Jacksonville's offense, and proved that he doesn't need many plays to make a huge impact on a game as a receiver.

The second-year phenom had an up-and-down day at cornerback. He was flagged for a ticky-tack pass interference call on Houston Texans' WR Nico Collins, which led to a touchdown shortly after. Hunter also had an inexcusable penalty as Houston was punting on fourth-and-1. He was unable to get off the field before the snap, and the too-many-men penalty allowed the Texans to stay on the field and eventually score another touchdown.

It was just one of many ill-timed penalties on the day for the Jaguars, which directly contributed to their heartbreaking 34-31 loss.

However, Hunter would later record the second interception of his career, picking off a C.J. Stroud pass in the end zone to prevent a Houston touchdown.

The interception allowed Jacksonville to stay in the game and mount a comeback. Cam Little's 60-yard field goal with under two minutes to go looked like it might send the game to overtime.

However, it was not meant to be, as the Texans were able to drive down the field and kick a game-winning 49-yard field goal as time expired.

One week after winning against the Eagles on a walk-off field goal, the Jaguars experienced the flip side of that coin, and the devastating loss dropped them to 4-2 on the season and cut their lead over the Texans to only two games.

Final Thoughts

After Hunter's terrific game at receiver, hopefully he will start to earn more opportunities on offense.

Brian Thomas Jr. continues to fall out of favor in Jacksonville. He had a bad drop in the first half and didn't see the field after halftime. If BTJ continues to stay on the sidelines, expect Hunter to start picking up the slack.

After what we saw on Sunday from Hunter as a receiver, that could be a very good thing.
