Quarterback Trevor Lawrence could make another leap this season in his second year under head coach Liam Coen.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are loaded with talent and have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about this year.

But no matter how many great players they have scattered around the roster, the Jaguars are likely to go wherever Trevor Lawrence's right arm (and legs) takes them this season.

In his first year under HC Liam Coen, Lawrence had the best season of his career, finally looking like the quarterback he was expected to be when he came to Jacksonville. Coen was Lawrence's fourth head coach in only five career seasons.

It's very difficult to improve when you have to start over almost every year.

Under Coen, one of the NFL's best offensive coaches and play-callers, Lawrence was an MVP finalist for the first time, despite having to learn a new offense that was "stressful mentally."

Now with a year in Coen's system under his belt, how Lawrence performs this season will most likely be the biggest factor in Jacksonville's success. Or lack of it.

Lawrence's doubters, of whom there are many, question whether his stellar play down the stretch last season was just an inconsistent quarterback having a hot streak.

Others, like Jeff Howe of The Athletic, believe Lawrence will be able to take his game to an even higher level in Year 2 of running Coen's offense.

In his article delivering one nugget of intel for all 32 teams, Howe predicts Lawrence will once again "make a jump" for the Jaguars now that he has already learned Coen's system.

Surrounded By Weapons

One of the biggest reasons Howe thinks Lawrence will reach a new level this year, other than a better understanding of Coen's offense, is that he will be surrounded by a plethora of weapons.

"Trevor Lawrence is well-positioned to make a jump in his second season in coach Liam Coen's system. It was also going to require time for Lawrence to take ownership of Coen’s offense, and there’s been a lot to like about his growth this summer, according to those around the Jaguars. With Brian Thomas primed to have a much better season as a big-play threat, Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington as trusted possession targets and Travis Hunter ready to step out of the phone booth, the picture is coming into focus for Lawrence."

Howe is right. Lawrence has an embarrassment of riches to throw the ball to. The quartet of BTJ, Meyers, Washington, and Hunter may be the best top-4 WR group in the NFL. Rookies Josh Cameron and CJ Williams have also looked good throughout camp.

That is a lot of talent to surround a QB with. Tight end Brenton Strange has also become one of Lawrence's most reliable targets, and running back Bhayshul Tuten is likely to get more opportunities in the passing game as well.

Final Thoughts

If Lawrence can find another gear this season, Jacksonville's offense could be dominant.

Everything Lawrence and Coen accomplished together last year could just be scratching the surface. Coen has only been a head coach for one season, and Lawrence has never had anything close to stability and continuity with a coaching staff before.

Both have significant room to grow together.

If Lawrence makes the jump Howe is predicting, Jacksonville could win its first-ever Super Bowl this season.
