A torrid late-season surge under Liam Coen’s explosive offense vaulted Jacksonville’s franchise signal-caller into the elite rankings, proving his MVP-caliber ceiling and single-season record-breaking passing power.
Every offseason, the NFL releases a highly-debated and highly-scrutinized list of the top 100 players in the league, showing how players rose or fell from the year prior.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a new addition to the rankings following his standout season, landing at No. 62, ahead of notable gunslingers like Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson.
"Year 1 of the Lawrence-Liam Coen partnership went swimmingly," NFL.com Digital Content Producer Bobby Kownack wrote. "After a couple down seasons, Lawrence returned to the trajectory of being a true franchise quarterback in 2025. Although things started slowly, Lawrence evolved into a fearsome force once he found his footing in [head coach Liam Coen’s] system, accounting for 19 touchdowns (15 passing, four rushing) and one turnover in his last six regular-season games."
This late-season surge was perhaps the best stretch of football Lawrence has played since being taken No. 1 overall years ago.
Lawrence led the Jaguars to a 13-4 finish overall, winning his final eight-games before the playoffs.
The former National Champion threw for 4,007 yards and set the single-season franchise record for touchdowns with 38.
"He finished fifth in MVP voting after his torrid stretch helped the Jaguars to their fourth division title in franchise history," Kownack wrote. "If he can build off that progress, his third career appearance on the NFL Top 100 is only the beginning."
In Lawrence's early years, he dealt with heavy turnover in the coaching staff, failing to find a play caller who could tap into his full potential.
However, Coen's schematics and energy seem like the perfect fit, as the duo has consistently praised each other and preached growth throughout the offseason.
“Four new systems, multiple different head coach situations, OCs, whatever it is, go throughout the season, and you find out, I mean, [Trevor] doesn’t miss a single practice, doesn’t miss a single throw in practice, played the whole season," Coen said in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio in early April. "MVP finalist, Comeback Player of the Year finalist, did some great things. There is so much room to continue to improve, and I think that’s what we’re excited about attacking."
Lawrence, who has struggled with turnovers in the past, had his most efficient professional season under Coen, throwing 29 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions.
With increased continuity with Brian Thomas Jr. and Parker Washington, and the improved health of former Heisman winner Travis Hunter, Lawrence should have even more talent and production to throw too.
Expect Duval's golden-haired gunslinger to build on this success and continue to look like the top-prospect that he was coming out of Clemson.
