The Jacksonville Jaguars cruised to a Week 1 victory thanks to the stellar play from starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Will he replicate last year's success against the Denver Broncos in Week 2?
All offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars' message was attacking each day and not allowing complacency to creep into the facilities.
In Week 1, the Jaguars looked the part as a team who built on last year's success, cruising to a comfortable 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the way for Jacksonville's offense, throwing for 245 passing yards and four touchdowns, while completing 18 of his 23 attempts.
Following the conclusion of Week 1 games, Pro Football Focus (PFF) named Lawrence the "Quarterback of the Week," noting his production.
"Lawrence was phenomenal in the Jaguars' season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns," PFF's Gordon McGuinness wrote. His +22.0% Completion Percentage Over Expectation led the NFL this week, while his +3.0% Accuracy Over Expectation ranked 10th."
After a Foyesade Oluokun interception set up Jacksonville on a short field, Lawrence quickly made the Browns pay, hooking up with Parker Washington on a 30-yard diving completion for the team's opening score.
The offense didn't look back from there, opening up a 24-0 first half lead, with Lawrence throwing for three touchdowns.
His second touchdown of the game set a piece of personal history, who now has 102 career passing touchdowns and becomes the third Jaguar to ever surpass the century mark.
With the score, Lawrence also became just one of four players in NFL history to record 100 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing scores before the age of 27, joining Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen.
The relationship and chemistry between Lawrence and second-year head coach Liam Coen has continued to strengthen, with the Jaguars' gunslinger continuing to show signs that he has taken another step in his development.
"I feel really comfortable, really confident with what we're doing," Lawrence said following the win.
Now, Lawrence and the Jaguars will take on the Denver Broncos, who had one of the most-dominant defenses last season, but struggled on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lawrence was one of the few QBs to find success against Denver last season, walking into Mile High in Week 16 and ending the Broncos' ten-game win streak.
Similar to his Week 1 performance, Lawrence accounted for four touchdowns, leading his team to a signature victory ahead of the postseason.
If Lawrence can replicate this success against Denver in Week 2, the Jaguars will pick up a momentum-boosting victory ahead of a difficult stretch on their schedule.
Additionally, Lawrence will continue to look like a dark horse MVP candidate, looking to join Newton, Allen, and Jackson on another historical NFL list.
