After a top-five MVP finish, Jacksonville’s star signal-caller enters year two of his explosive offensive system, primed to dominate the league and justify his record-breaking contract.
A prominent NFL analyst is expecting a big year from quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Pete Prisco of CBS Sports made an appearance on The Frangie Show and gave his thoughts on the Jacksonville Jaguars' minicamp. Prisco talked about Lawrence's fantastic 2025 season and how the QB's second season in head coach Liam Coen and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski's offense could be even better.
Lawrence, the top overall pick by Jacksonville in 2021, finished the second half of the 2025 season looking like one of the best quarterbacks in the entire NFL. He was the player the Jaguars envisioned not only when they drafted him, but when they gave him a stunning five-year, $275 million contract extension two years ago. That extension kicks in this season.
When Jacksonville decided to make Lawrence the highest-paid NFL player in history (tied, at the time), the team was betting that he would become an MVP-level quarterback. Lawrence was a first-time finalist for the award in 2025, finishing fifth in the voting.
Prisco Expects Another MVP-Level Season
Prisco said that he actually had Lawrence third in his MVP vote, and expected him to finish higher than fifth. He believes that being in the same offense for a second consecutive year, instead of having to learn a new one, will enable Lawrence to take another step forward in 2026, comparing him to Matthew Stafford becoming MVP with the Los Angeles Rams.
"Matt Stafford was so good at seeing everything and processing it. That's the next step for Trevor. You saw glimpses of that (during) the second part of the season, and everybody started to play better. I think that's where he's going. I think he's gonna have another big year, and, in fact, I think this is going to be his biggest year, and I do think he's gonna be in the MVP conversation again this year. I really do."
Prisco believes that not only will Lawrence improve in 2026, but the entire Jaguars' passing offense will as well.
"I think the passing game can be really dynamic. You have a great playcaller. You have a receiver group that's gonna grow together. And then you have a quarterback that's really starting to mesh with them, and starting to understand the offense and the coverages a lot better. And that usually is a sign of a team that's gonna take the next step in throwing the football."
Lawrence has already spoken about his focus on mastering the offense this year after having to learn it last year when both Coen and Udinski installed it.
Final Thoughts
Prisco clearly believes Lawrence is going to establish himself as one of the best QBs in the NFL this season and prove last year was no fluke. The Jaguars' offense should be one of the most exciting in the league, led by Lawrence and a deep group of talented wide receivers.
Can Lawrence have an MVP-worthy season? Absolutely. He's the quarterback of a team that won 13 games last season without his top WR, Brian Thomas Jr., playing up to his standard, and Travis Hunter only played seven games before a knee injury ended his campaign.
The emergence of Parker Washington, who is also expected to take another step forward in 2026, gives Lawrence yet another dynamic weapon. Jakobi Meyers came over in a trade and was one of the Jags' most consistent players down the stretch last year.
The expectations for Lawrence are higher than ever. Will he have another giant leap in his game to match the giant leap in his salary? Don't bet against it.
