With depth issues looming behind their star starters, Jacksonville could secure a versatile, two-time Super Bowl champion to bolster the pass rush and provide veteran leadership.
The Jacksonville Jaguars could certainly use another pass rusher for the 2026 season.
The Jaguars top two edge rushers are set with stars Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, who is looking to return to the double-digit sacks artist he was before nagging injuries affected his play last season.
However, behind those two, the Jaguars are not very deep. The team is high on fourth-round rookie Wesley Williams, but relying on a mid-round draft pick to make a big impact is risky, especially for a team that is hoping to win its first-ever Super Bowl.
Luckily for Jacksonville, there is a player still looking to join a team for the upcoming season who can not only help bolster the Jags' pass rush but can also bring his championship experience to town.
That would be Kyle Van Noy, who is an unrestricted free agent.
What Van Noy Can Offer
Set to enter his 13th season in the NFL, Van Noy has a lot to offer a team like the Jaguars. Let's start with his play on the field, where Van Noy has been one of the NFL's most reliable defensive players for the past decade. Aside from his rookie year in 2014, Van Noy has played in at least 13 games every season.
His career started slowly after being drafted by the Detroit Lions, but Van Noy started living up to his second-round pedigree with the New England Patriots. He became one of the most well-rounded and consistent players on the Patriots' defense. While with the Patriots, Van Noy was a key part of two Super Bowl championship teams.
For the past three seasons, he has been a member of the Baltimore Ravens, where Van Noy unlocked a level of pass-rushing ability he had not previously shown. Up until his first season in Baltimore, Van Noy's career-high for sacks was 6.5. The 2023 and 2024 seasons saw him record nine and 12.5 sacks, the two highest marks of his career.
Van Noy's ability to play multiple spots within a defense makes him a perfect fit for Jacksonville's defense. He can line up on or off the line of scrimmage. He can rush the quarterback off the edge or as a traditional linebacker. His elite football IQ makes him an extra coach on the field, which could have a calming effect on the Jaguars' entire defense, especially after losing Devin Lloyd in free agency.
Still Wants To Play
Even though Van Noy remains unsigned, he has stated his desire to play in 2026. While his preferred destination may be the San Francisco 49ers, the Jaguars can also offer Van Noy an opportunity to win a third Super Bowl. As the season approaches, Van Noy may simply accept the best offer he has.
Final Thoughts
Adding a player with Van Noy's elite football IQ and championship experience could do wonders for the Jaguars' defense. He wouldn't cost a ton, and still has the ability to make plays in whatever role the coaches ask of him.
After last season's success, Jacksonville can give Van Noy, or any other free agent, a shot to win a Super Bowl. The Jaguars should be a preferred destination for anyone still seeking a team for 2026.
It's time for James Gladstone to pick up the phone and see if he can bring a proven winner like Van Noy to Jacksonville.
