With Trevor Lawrence entering his prime and star playmakers returning from injury, Jacksonville aims to finally secure a Lombardi Trophy following a dominant 13-4 regular season a year ago.

Will this be the season that the Jacksonville Jaguars win their first ever Super Bowl?

Only 12 NFL franchises have never experienced the joy of lifting the Lombardi Trophy. Only four have never reached the big game, including the Jaguars. Of those dozen teams, NFL.com ranked the Jaguars the 6th likeliest to win their first Super Bowl this season.

Expectations for Jacksonville are higher for the upcoming season than they have been in any season in recent memory. After finishing last season with a 13-4 record, including eight straight victories to end the regular season, the Jaguars lost a heartbreaking contest to the Buffalo Bills in their first playoff game.

Reasons For Super Bowl Aspirations

Even though Jacksonville fell in its first postseason last season, there are plenty of reasons for the team to have Super Bowl aspirations this year. At the top of that list is the ascent of Trevor Lawrence, who finished the 2025 campaign playing the best football of his career.

Entering his second season under head coach Liam Coen, the Jaguars' quarterback has been able to focus on mastering the offense instead of learning a new one. Still only 26 years old, the 2021 top overall pick is just entering his prime and is a legitimate MVP candidate for the upcoming season.

Aside from Lawrence, Jacksonville is also counting on several key players having much-improved seasons in 2026. Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., after an abysmal 2025 year, has looked great so far in OTAs and is looking to regain the magic of his 2024 rookie year. The Jaguars kept BTJ despite months-long trade rumors, and the 23-year-old is on a mission to reward the team's faith in him.

Last year's star rookie, Travis Hunter, played in only seven games before his season ended due to injury. Hunter has superstar potential and can become one of the NFL's top cornerbacks while also providing a boost as a WR. Another receiver, Parker Washington, had a breakout campaign last year and is expected to take another leap in 2026.

On defense, Travon Walker should be fully healthy after nagging injuries affected his play in 2025. Walker, after recording double-digit sacks the previous two years, only had 3.5 in 2025. If the 2022 top overall pick stays healthy, his pairing with Josh Hines-Allen could be one of the league's most lethal pass-rushing duos.

Final Thoughts

After struggling to find the right head coach, Jacksonville hit the jackpot with Liam Coen. The Jaguars are entering their second year under Coen's leadership, and are one of the NFL's most exciting teams.

Can Jacksonville take another giant step forward and become a true Super Bowl contender? That is a question they will have to answer on the field. However, there is no denying that the Jaguars have the talent, youth, and coaching staff to be one of the NFL's top teams.
