After a disappointing sophomore slump and persistent trade rumors, the former Pro-Bowler must reclaim his WR1 status amidst a crowded depth chart to secure his future in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to begin OTAs on Tuesday, with many interesting storylines to follow. The competition between RBs Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. to lead the Jags' backfield will get plenty of attention.

We will also get a good look at the Jaguars' crop of rookies, such as DT Albert Regis and G Emmanuel Pregnon, and how they stack up against the veterans for the first time. Ventrell Miller, set to earn a full-time starting role as a starting LB, is beginning to build plenty of hype for the upcoming season. Will he look the part at OTAs?

However, there is Jaguar with more to prove at OTAs than WR Brian Thomas Jr., who is looking to rebound from a miserable 2025 season.

Still A Jaguar

The subject of constant trade rumors since season's end, BTJ is still a Jaguar. Despite Jacksonville's insistence that they will not trade him, the rumors surrounding BTJ will not die. The third-year star is looking to show everyone that the Jags are making the right decision to keep him.

It is easy to see why the Jaguars are reluctant to part with Thomas, who looked like a superstar in his rookie year.  The Jags' first-round pick in 2024, Thomas exploded onto the scene with 87 catches, 1282 yards, and 10 TDs as a rookie, earning a Pro-Bowl nod. His sophomore season was a huge disappointment, as his production dropped to 48-707-2, leading to rumors of a possible trade.

Jaguars Have A Loaded WR Room

Heading into the 2026 season, the Jaguars have a loaded WR room. Last year's prized rookie, Travis Hunter, should be 100% to start the season. Jakobi Meyers, whom Jacksonville acquired in a midseason trade, has quickly built rapport with QB Trevor Lawrence. The Jags also inked Meyers to a three-year, $60 million extension, proving he is a big part of the team's future.

WR Parker Washington is also coming off a career season and is expected to get a big-money contract soon. Washington's leap has left many questioning whether he is now the Jaguars' best receiver.

Thomas Jr, will have to earn his way back up the food chain. He must prove that the 2025 season, and not his breakout rookie year, was a fluke. BTJ certainly has the talent to reclaim his WR! throne in Jacksonville, and must begin to show it during OTAs.

Final Thoughts

Thomas Jr. is the player with the most to prove during OTAs, and it is not particularly close. He has an opportunity to show that he is the same player he was in 2024. If his talent shines through, his doubters will be quieted. If BTJ continues to struggle with drops and looks frustrated at OTAs, the criticism will become deafening.

The Jaguars are betting that Thomas Jr. will turn back the clock to 2024. This week's OTAs are his first chance to prove they made the right decision.
