Here are three of the biggest X-Factors for the New York Jets to win this week against the Browns.
The New York Jets come into Week 5 of the NFL season ready to turn their season around following three straight losses.
New York comes in with a record of 1-3 on the season, with both sides of the ball sputtering over the last few weeks. The Jets will be hosting the upstart Cleveland Browns, who surprisingly own a record of 3-1 for the new year.
Here are three of the biggest X-Factors for the Jets to pull off one of the upsets from the early part of the NFL season against the Browns.
1. Offensive Line Steps Up
Coming into this game, the Jets have a major disadvantage against the Browns that could swing the contest away from New York. The Jets' offensive line has allowed some of the most pressure in the NFL this season, causing all sorts of issues on the offensive side of the ball.
Cleveland has generated some of the most pressure around the league, pitting these two differences up against one another. If the Jets aren't careful, it could be a long game for the offensive line, and this group is going to have to step up against the Browns.
2. Braelon Allen Breakout Game
With starting running back Breece Hall out for this week again, backup Braelon Allen will be taking over again. Allen started in place of Hall last week against the Bears, but he couldn't do much of anything, rushing for 59 yards on 14 carries.
Against the Browns, Allen will be called upon to put together a nice outing, hoping to get the running game going strong. If he can make this happen, it could open the door for the passing offense of the Jets to take off, forcing the Browns to have to play both aspects of the attack.
3. Geno Smith Continues Interception-Less Streak
When the Jets traded for Geno Smith over the offseason, the move was met with all sorts of criticism. Smith had just put together a worrisome season with the Las Vegas Raiders, throwing for 3,025 yards with 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions on the year.
But so far this season, Smith has yet to throw an interception through the first four games, showing improvement in caring for the ball. If Smith can keep this streak going against an opportunistic Browns defense, it could put the Jets into a position to steal the win this week.
