As the New York JetsCo begin to prepare for the 2026 NFL Free Agency period next week, general manager Darren Mougey and the rest of the front office have a perfect opportunity to revamp the roster this offseason.
With 11 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft and one of the best cap situations in the league, New York is in a prime spot to make a huge splash through either free agency or a trade. Last year’s offense, with quarterback Justin Fields at the helm, was far below average across the entire league. And while the quarterback position remains a massive question mark for next season, the wide receiver position will also be a primary need for the Jets.
Outside of star wideout Garrett Wilson, New York lacks playmakers on the perimeter to truly take the passing game to the next level.
Luckily for Mougey and company, Jacksonville Jaguars’ former 2024 first-round pick Brian Thomas Jr. continues to float around in trade rumors, which would be an excellent fit for the struggling offense in 2026.

In 2024, the former LSU Tiger recorded 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 87 catches. His incredible first year in Jacksonville put him on the map amongst the best in the league, as he finished with the third-most receiving yards as a rookie.
However, Thomas was unable to repeat his success from the previous season in 2025.
Last year, the highly-touted, 23-year-old receiver played in 14 games for the Jaguars during the team’s playoff run, but was not the main target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Thomas ended the year with 48 catches for 707 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also being targeted a total of 91 times.
With the emergence of 2023 fifth-round pick Parker Washington and newly acquired veteran Jakobi Meyers, the young playmaker’s role was diminished under head coach Liam Coen.
Now, Thomas has a chance to land a fresh start if he winds up being traded this offseason. Depending on the Jets’ willingness to get a deal done for Thomas, he would be exactly what head coach Aaron Glenn’s offense needs in 2026. His ability to win downfield is something that New York desperately needs and would be a terrific second option behind Wilson.
