The New York Jets came away with a dominant win in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.
The New York Jets opened the 2026 season with a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans. It was a great start to the year for New York, led by their defense, which played at a high level.
The Jets put pressure on quarterback Cam Ward, leading to an inefficient day for the former number one overall pick as he completed 19 of 32 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions.
Will McDonald IV, Kingsley Enagbare, and David Bailey all came away with a sack on Ward. McDonald IV has had back-to-back strong seasons off the edge, as he posted 28 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks in 2024. In 2025, he had 30 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and eight sacks.
Enagbare signed with New York this offseason after spending his first four seasons in the league as a rotational pass rusher for the Green Bay Packers. In his career, he has recorded 146 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks.
Bailey is the player the Jets are most excited about on the defensive line, as they selected him with the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
He is making an immediate impact as a rookie after a dominant season at Texas Tech, where he was an All-American, finishing with 52 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks.
USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectWith these pieces on the defensive line, New York's defense could emerge as a top unit in the league in the near future.
On offense, quarterback Geno Smith led the way on the ground, completing 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards. Running back Breece Hall had a strong performance with 102 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, while rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq added a rushing touchdown.
The offense has room to improve, but it was a solid start to the 2026 season, with the team looking more organized in the passing game.
While the Titans were also one of the worst teams in the NFL in the 2025 season, the Jets can still take away some positives from their Week 1 victory. They will face a tougher matchup in Week 2 as they take on the Packers.
