After a brutal loss in Week 16, the New York Jets have officially named the team’s starting quarterback ahead of the organization’s final home game of the 2025 NFL season.
On Monday morning, Jets’ head coach Aaron Glenn announced that rookie quarterback Brady Cook will once again be the starter for the team’s Week 17 matchup against the New England Patriots.
With both quarterbacks Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor suffering injuries earlier this season, Cook was forced into the starting role in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In his last two games, the former Missouri Tiger standout threw for 364 yards, while also throwing one touchdown to four interceptions in the Jets’ previous two games.
When asked about who would be the starting quarterback in Week 17, Glenn also told reporters that he thought Cook did “a really good job” at the beginning of New York’s most recent loss to the New Orleans Saints.
“Listen, there were some things in that game, I think if you go back and watch the beginning of the game, I thought he was doing a really good job,” Glenn claimed. “But as the game progressed, I will say this: between Brady making some mistakes, between the protection of the [offensive line], between some of the concepts that we have for him, all of our hands were involved with some of the mistakes that happened [against the Saints]. But I thought he did a really good job at the beginning of the game, managing the game.”
Cook finished his second-career NFL start by completing 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 188 yards and one interception. However, Cook was able to help the Jets remain in striking distance for the entire first half, leading the team to two field goals and a three-point deficit heading into the third quarter.
Now, with two games left in the regular season for the Jets, the move to start the rookie quarterback on Sunday will be an excellent time for the organization to evaluate Cook for the 2026 NFL season.
New York currently holds the No. 5 and No. 18 picks in the upcoming draft, which could be used to select a quarterback.
