The New York Jets have made multiple roster moves before their Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions.
With just about 24 hours before the New York Jets take on the Detroit Lions in Week 3, the team has made some roster moves.
New York has been dealing with a few injuries to key wide receivers, including Adonai Mitchell, who is listed as questionable with a finger injury. The Jets also placed Omar Cooper on injured reserve before Week 2, leaving them with a thin number of healthy wideouts.
To counteract this, the Jets have elevated veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard from the practice squad. The team also signed wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett to the active roster.
In addition, New York also elevated kicker Jason Sanders. The Jets now feel a little more comfortable about the roster heading into the game with the Lions.
Shepard, a former second-round draft pick of the New York Giants, could be of real help to this Jets offense. If Mitchell can't give it a go, Shepard could provide the team with some nice depth at the position.
The veteran joined the Jets practice squad last week after spending time with the Houston Texans over the summer. Shepard spent last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, posting 371 yards on 39 catches and one touchdown.
But the majority of his NFL career came with the Giants, where he started to show what he could do. Overall, Shepard has caught 443 receptions for 4,800 yards and 25 touchdowns over his 10 NFL seasons.
As for Pritchett, he signed with New York as an undrafted free agent in May 2025, spending last year on the practice squad. If he takes the field on Sunday against Detroit, this will be the first game action during the regular season for him.
Pritchett caught three passes for 24 yards during the preseason this year with the Jets. New York believes he could give them some added depth, helping the offense run much smoother.
New York will have a tough game against the Lions, and the offense will need to step up to stay with the high-powered Detroit attack. The Jets have seen some inconsistency from the offense to open the season, and this game will be a challenge for them.
If the Jets can put together a strong showing, the defense has been solid enough to possibly help them get the win. New York is 1-1 on the season, and this group is looking to pick up a massive road win early on in the year.
