New York Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. may not have a starting role to begin the season.

The New York Jets have built a roster with a ton of young talent, leading to some battles in training camp.

One player who is battling for a starting receiver spot on the depth chart is rookie Omar Cooper Jr.

The Jets selected Cooper with the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he could be "leapfrogged" in the depth chart by Isaiah Williams. Williams has been a return specialist, but is now making noise in the receiver room.

Williams appeared in 15 games for New York in the 2025 season, finishing with 26 receptions for 193 yards as well as three rushes for 34 yards. The 25-year-old could be a developing piece for the Jets' young offense.

While Cooper was a first-round pick by the Jets, he may not start out his career as a starter. In the 2025 season, Cooper was a major piece for Indiana's offense, as he hauled in 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 22-year-old added 74 yards and a touchdown on three carries.

While Cooper and Williams battle it out for the third wide receiver spot, Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell are likely to be the other two starters.

Wilson is a star wideout, as he had over 1,000 yards in his first three seasons in the league, but didn't reach that threshold in the 2025 season, as he finished with 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns across seven games.

He was elite in a full season in 2024, as recorded 101 receptions for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns.

Mitchell is less established, but has the potential to break out in the 2026 season. New York acquired him at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts. The 23-year-old wideout had 24 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns in eight games for the Jets.

New York has a talented roster, and they should be more competitive in the 2026 season. They will also see which young players are core pieces for the future in battles between players like Cooper and Williams.
