The New York Jets have ruled out two players for their opening Week 1 matchup with the Tennessee Titans.
The New York Jets will be taking on the Tennessee Titans to kick off the new NFL season this weekend.
New York enters the year with a ton of optimism and hype, despite finishing last year with a 3-14 record. But the Jets have belief in the locker room, which could lead to some surprising results for the team.
Ahead of the matchup with the Titans, the Jets have released an injury update. In it, head coach Aaron Glenn has ruled out two players for the upcoming game.
Edge rushing Joseph Ossai and wide receiver Tim Patrick will both be out for the Week 1 game. Additionally, cornerback D'Angelo Ponds and running back Kene Nwangwu are listed as doubtful for the contest.
Ossai came over to the Jets this offseason, after spending the first few years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran pass rusher is expected to give New York some extra depth, helping to get to the quarterback.
Last season with the Bengals, Ossai played in 14 games, recording 43 total tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. Ossai is a former third-round draft pick out of Texas.
As for Patrick, he is a veteran wide receiver, who comes to the Jets after spending last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Patrick recorded 15 catches for 187 yards and three touchdowns with Jacksonville last season.
Patrick went undrafted in 2017 out of Utah, originally signing with the Baltimore Ravens. The wideout has spent time with multiple teams over his NFL career, including seven years with the Denver Broncos.
Ponds, the Jets' second-round pick from 2026, could be a strong secondary option once healthy. And Nwangwu is seen as a depth piece for the Jets in the backfield.
The Jets will have most of their roster healthy for this game against the Titans, giving themselves a decent chance to grab the win. Quarterback Geno Smith will be under center for New York, and he is going to have a lot of pressure on his shoulders this season.
This will be Smith's second stint with the Jets, but he has seen success in the NFL since leaving New York. If Smith can play well, the ceiling for New York becomes even higher, especially with the playmakers that the team has on offense.
New York and Tennessee will kick off in the 10:00 a.m./1:00 p.m. window of games to open the first weekend of the NFL season.
