The New York Jets still don't have a firm identity after blowing a Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers.
Just when it looked like the New York Jets might start the 2026 NFL season 2-0, the team found a way to blow the game.
New York collapsed at the end of the game against the Green Bay Packers, sending the team to a 1-1 record on the year. The Jets have done a lot well through the first two weeks of the season, but this loss to Green Bay could hurt.
Teams have to learn how to win in the NFL, and on Sunday, the Jets proved that they just aren't there yet. Due to the performance, New York stood pat in a new edition of power rankings from Bleacher Report.
The Jets came in ranked at No. 26 from last week and they are still ranked No. 26 as Week 3 gets going. But NFL analyst Moe Moton of Bleacher Report believes that there are real issues lingering from this loss to the Packers.
"Gang Green hasn't convinced us that this year's team isn't the same old New York Jets, who find ways to lose games with undisciplined play. On Sunday, the Jets committed 13 penalties that cost them 156 yards and couldn't overcome other self-inflicted errors. If the Jets want to establish a new identity that's different from their losing culture, they can't play themselves out of close games," Moton wrote.
For the Jets, they had everything working for them against the Packers. But the self-inflicted issues came to a head once again.
If this team wants to change the narratives around themselves, this will be the first area to start with. New York has to do a better job to not beat itself on the field, while maximizing the errors made from the opposing team.
Moving forward, head coach Aaron Glenn will need to preach consistency, which the Jets haven't had in a long time. But this group has talent, and it has shown itself on the field through the first two weeks of the NFL season.
If the Jets can put together another full game effort, more wins could come down the line. But for now, New York will have to move on from this loss in Week 2.
New York will be heading on the road to take on the Detroit Lions this week, giving themselves another chance to pick up the win. But this team will be kicking itself for not closing out the game against the Packers.
