The New York Jets have been urged to sign a former Pro Bowl star to help the defense.
The New York Jets season hasn't gone to plan through the first four weeks of the year, despite them grabbing a win to open the season.
New York has now dropped three games in a row, sitting at 1-3 on the year in frustrating fashion for this group. After Week 1, the Jets had real belief that this season could be different, but it's been more of the same for this franchise.
Both sides of the ball have been extremely inconsistent from week to week, with New York never knowing what to expect. Luckily for the Jets, there is still a lot of the season left to go, but the clock is ticking.
And now, the team has lost star defensive end Braiden McGregor for the rest of the season due to injury. This is a big blow to the Jets' defensive structure, and the team will have to figure out a way to replace him.
One name that could be interesting for the Jets to consider is veteran Joey Bosa, who is currently a free agent. Bosa never signed with a team over the offseason, and he could be exactly the type of player to help New York replace McGregor.
Paul Esden Jr. of Heavy.com suggested that the Jets sign Bosa, and the fit does make sense. Bosa is coming off a season that saw him play for the Buffalo Bills, posting 17 total tackles and five sacks.
The veteran defensive end did lead he league in forced fumbles last season, generating five turnovers against opposing teams. While Bosa isn't the same level of player that he was a few years ago, he could be a strong addition to this Jets defensive front.
Bosa has made five Pro-Bowl appearances in his career, and he's carved out a very solid career for himself, despite injuries taking over of late. The veteran hasn't played in a full season since 2021, but he did play in 15 of 17 contests for Buffalo last year.
If anything, Bosa could be used as a depth piece for the Jets for the rest of the way, helping to get them timely sacks and tackles. At this point in his NFL career, Bosa isn't going to be the star of a defense, but instead he could also be a veteran leader for the unit.
New York could use another player just like this, helping to teach some of the younger guys on the roster. Overall, this would be a low-risk signing for the Jets to consider, but it could have big ramifications down the line.
