The New York Jets aren't going to know who they will face this week until Sunday.
The New York Jets will be taking on the Chicago Bears this weekend, giving the team an opportunity to get a big road win.
New York is coming off a tough loss to the Detroit Lions, while Chicago was able to take down the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets will enter this game with a record of 1-2, while the Bears are 2-1 on the new season.
But before the game gets going, there are still some matters to figure out for New York, with the main one being who they will face at the quarterback position. Ahead of the game, the Bears have officially ruled out starter Caleb Williams with a hamstring injury, but who will replace him remains unknown.
Chicago will either start Tyson Bagent or veteran Case Keenum, but the team won't reveal who it will be. Bears head coach Ben Johnson said that the team will announce the starter on Sunday before the game, leaving the Jets having to scheme for both players.
Bagent is coming off the concussion protocol, missing last week's game for the team. Chicago has Bagent listed as the backup to Williams, but the idea of Keenum is intriguing to the Bears.
Keenum led Chicago to a big win over the Eagles, with the veteran putting on a show in the game. Against Philadelphia, Keenum threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, showing complete control of the offense.
Johnson may elect to go with the hot hand in Keenum, giving him another chance to get the team a win. But the Jets will have to make sure that they are ready for either player before the game starts.
New York's defense has played well this season, but the Bears' offense has been one of the best in the NFL this year. This will give the Jets a real challenge this week, even without Williams under center for Chicago.
For the Jets to win, the offense may need to keep up with what the Bears are going. Thankfully for New York, veteran quarterback Geno Smith has played well this season, throwing for 783 yards with four touchdowns.
Smith hasn't thrown an interception this season, and he will need to keep that streak going this weekend. Chicago has an aggressive defensive scheme, and Smith will be tested in this game.
But overall, no matter who is under center for the Bears, New York has a favorable matchup since they will be playing a backup. However, the Jets can't overlook this and instead need to treat the team in the same manner as if Williams was playing.
