The New York Jets are likely to face this quarterback against the Chicago Bears, according to a new report.

The New York Jets will be taking on the Chicago Bears this week, with the team looking to get back to a .500 record.

New York dropped a tough game a week ago against the Detroit Lions, and this group will be looking to bounce back. The Jets have played much better this season than they did a year ago, looking much more competitive on the field.

Part of this has been due to the play from quarterback Geno Smith, giving the New York offense a spark. But heading into the game against Chicago, the Jets still don't officially know who will be under center for the Bears.

Chicago already ruled out star quarterback Caleb Williams due to a hamstring injury, and the team hasn't announced who will take his place. The Bears have been weighing a decision to start either Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum against New York.

But now, new reporting has said that Bagent is likely to get the nod against Chicago. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Bagent took the majority of reps with the first team at practice, and there is an expectation that he will be named the starter against the Jets.

If this does happen, New York will be facing a player who is coming off the concussion protocol from last week. Chicago started Keenum against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he played well, which have thought to the Bears sticking with the hot hand.

But it seems that the Jets will get the actual backup for the Bears in this contest. Assuming that this reporting is true, Bagent will be making his first start since 2023.

In his career, Bagent has started four games total, going 2-2 overall. His career numbers have seen him throw for 971 yards, with three touchdowns and six interceptions.

Bagent can be a dual-threat as well, with him rushing for 109 yards and two touchdowns

For the Jets, they will look to make him as uncomfortable as possible, and with him being a backup, it puts this team in a favorable situation. But New York can't overlook Bagent, and head coach Ben Johnson will have him ready to go in this game.

The Jets need to maintain their focus as if Williams were playing for the Bears, coming out with the intent to get to the quarterback early and often. If New York can do this, getting Bagent out of a rhythm, it could give them a good chance to steal the win on the road.
