The New York Jets and general manager Darren Mougey have made a huge decision regarding IOL Joe Tippmann's future with the organization on Monday morning.

Despite an offseason filled with plenty of new acquisitions, the New York Jets and general manager Darren Mougey continue to build up the future roster before the upcoming NFL season

The Jets made it clear this offseason that the offense needed to be revamped by selecting both Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq and Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. But, in order to protect the team’s future franchise quarterback, Mougey and the front office understood that they must invest in the offensive line.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Monday morning, the New York Jets and guard Joe Tippmann have agreed to a four-year, $66.4 million extension, with $34.9 million guaranteed.

Tippmann, a former second-round pick by the Jets in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been one of the team’s many young playmakers on the offensive line over the past few seasons. During his rookie season with the organization, the former Wisconsin Badgers standout played 653 offensive snaps at the center position, but struggled to find his footing.

As someone who played a majority of his snaps at the center position in college, Tippmann allowed 20 quarterback pressures and three sacks in his first season with the Jets, causing concern amongst Jets fans.

However, the tides began to shift in Tippmann’s favor throughout the 2024 season, as he showed great progress in his development. The young offensive lineman cut down on his penalties (from eight to four), while also finishing with a career-best PFF offensive grade of 73.4.

Unfortunate for Tippmann, with former Jets’ first-round pick Alijah Vera-Tucker missing the entire 2025 season due to an injury, the 25-year-old was forced to play right guard. This caused him to take a step back in his development as a versatile offensive lineman, as he allowed 29 pressures and six sacks while playing full-time guard in 2025.

Still, head coach Aaron Glenn and the rest of the Jets’ organization clearly have a plan for Tippmann after the two parties agreed to a massive extension this offseason. Mougey gave a two-year, $11 million extension to veteran Josh Myers towards the end of the 2025 season, which means Tippmann is set to be the team’s starting right guard once again in 2026 and beyond.
