New York Jets Set To Hire Former Highly-Touted Coach For OC Position in 2026 cover image

The New York Jets have now found their new offensive coordinator for the 2026 NFL season on Wednesday morning.

With the 2025 NFL season slowly coming to a close, the New York Jets and general manager Darren Mougey are beginning to address the franchise’s biggest needs so far this offseason.

Last month, the Mougey and the front office ultimately decided to move on from former offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand after a horrific offensive effort in 2025. This left a massive opening on the coaching staff, but Jets fans now have clarity as to who will take over the reins.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning, the Jets are set to hire former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers’ head coach Frank Reich to be the team’s next offensive play caller in 2026.

Reich’s Background

As a longtime NFL quarterback, Reich will bring plenty of knowledge and experience to the Jets’ struggling offense next season. Shortly after his playing days, the former 1985 third-round pick landed his first coaching gig with the Colts back in 2006 as an intern. Reich would then spend multiple years in different coaching positions with the Colts, the Arizona Cardinals, and the San Diego Chargers.

Reich eventually received his first coordinator position in 2016 with the Philadelphia Eagles, overseeing the team’s offense for two seasons.

This quick stop with the Eagles led to him becoming the head coach of the Colts in 2018, where he spent 4.5 years in Indianapolis before being fired midway through the 2022 season. Reich was granted another head coach opportunity with the Panthers in the following season, but his 1-10 record with the organization prompted Carolina to move on from him.

With two unfortunate failures at the NFL level, Reich would take the 2024 season off before being named the interim head coach for the Stanford Cardinals in 2025. In his 12 games with the program, Reich posted a 4-8 record, but was recently replaced by newly-hired head coach Tavita Pritchard.

While the 64-year-old may not have been a successful coach at the NFL level, Reich is still highly-regarded around the league as an offensive play caller.

During his two seasons with the Eagles, Reich played a key role in the team’s Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, as he aided former veteran quarterback Nick Foles’ impressive run in the 2017 playoffs.
