After a horrific start to the 2025 NFL season, the New York Jets will now begin to slowly shift their focus to the future of the franchise.

One name that will become a trending topic after this season will be running back Breece Hall, as the Jets’ leading rusher is set to become a free agent in 2026. With the uncertainty surrounding Hall’s future with the team, fans received some clarity on the potential contract that he could receive in the free market.

According to an article written by NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Hall could land himself a deal similar to Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs this offseason.

“Hall was coveted at the trade deadline," Fowler wrote. "That the Jets wanted a third-round pick in return for a running back reminds that Hall has top-end talent. And my sense is he will do just fine in free agency -- think Josh Jacobs' four-year, $48 million deal signed in March 2024 as a possibility. A few personnel evaluators thought that was a fair contract [comparison].”

Prior to being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Hall put together an incredible college career at Iowa State, rushing for nearly 4,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in three seasons. In addition to his success in the run game, the 24-year-old halfback finished with 734 receiving yards and six touchdowns through the air.

Unfortunately for Hall, a season-ending injury would limit him to seven games during his rookie season, as he finished with 463 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 80 carries. Since then, the highly-regarded rusher has tallied 2,534 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 42 games.

While Hall remains a staple of the Jets’ offense, fans were surprised to see the organization keep the young playmaker during the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline, as general manager Darren Mougey dealt cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams last week.

Multiple reports claimed that the Kansas City Chiefs were interested in Hall, but Mougey demanded a third-round pick for the explosive running back.

Now, the front office must decide whether or not to give Hall an extension before he hits the free agent market. New York has roughly $100 million in cap space heading into next season and could easily offer Hall a similar contract to Jacobs.

The real question, however, is not if the team wants to extend Hall, but rather if Hall wants to stay with the struggling franchise following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL season.
