As we slowly make our way towards the 2026 NFL Draft, New York Jets fans are excited to see what general manager Darren Mougey has in store for the big day.
The struggling franchise is set to have 11 picks in the upcoming draft, including four picks within the top-50 after Mougey’s massive fire sale at the trade deadline. And while many of the Jets’ concerns heading into the offseason lie on the defensive side of the ball, there are multiple needs that must be fulfilled on offense.
2022 second-round pick Breece Hall has been a key playmaker for New York’s offense since joining the organization, but the talented running back is now set to become a free agent this offseason. Luckily for Mougey and the front office, Arkansas running back Mike Washington Jr. could be the answer for the Jets if Hall does not resign this offseason.
Nelson Chenault-Imagn ImagesAfter spending his first four college seasons between Buffalo and New Mexico State, Washington quickly caught the attention of many NFL scouts this past season with the Razorbacks.
In 2025, the experienced rusher managed to tally 1,070 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on just 167 carries. On top of his impressive efforts on the ground, Washington also recorded 28 catches for 226 receiving yards and one touchdown through the air.
At 6-foot, 228 lbs., Washington possesses a nice blend of size and speed that allows him to be successful with the ball in his hands. Whether it’s running between tackles or catching a pass out of the backfield, the prolific running back proved countless times at Arkansas that he can spark an offense at any given moment.
The one concern regarding Washington prior to the 2026 NFL Draft, however, will be his age. Since he spent five seasons in college, Washington enters this year’s draft at 23 years old. While this may not be a significant issue, his age could work in favor of the Jets, as it could lead to him falling to the third day of the draft.
If Mougey ultimately decides to take Washington, his ability to be an excellent threat out of the backfield in both the run and pass game will be exactly what the Jets need without Hall. The standout rusher could fill Hall’s role as the team’s third-down back, while also being a key rotational piece alongside Braelon Allen.
