Why Jets' Must Consider Trading Star Playmaker After Winless Start cover image

After a brutal 0-4 start to the 2025 NFL season, the New York Jets must consider trading this offensive weapon.

The New York Jets are in one of, if not the worst, spots to kick off the 2025 NFL season.

Despite all the hype surrounding the team this offseason, newly-hired head coach Aaron Glenn and his squad are now 0-4 to begin the season after dropping a brutal Monday night game to the Miami Dolphins in week four. This rough start has caused the franchise to look internally, which means the Jets must reconsider their current lineup moving forward this season.

Luckily for the offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, New York’s running back room is one of the deepest units in the NFL. Prior to suffering a knee injury, second-year playmaker Braelon Allen tallied 26 rushing yards on four carries, while fellow running back Isaiah Davis received some attempts in week four. With an incredible stable of rushers and the team failing to pick up a win through four games, the front office must consider moving off star running back Breece Hall.

As a former second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Hall showed tons of promise throughout his college career at Iowa State, recording 3,941 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns in three seasons with the Cyclones. In addition to his impressive efforts on the ground, the highly-touted halfback also finished with 82 catches for 734 yards and six touchdowns, proving that he fits the modern-day, do-it-all running back.

However, Hall would get off to a slow start in his professional career due to sustaining an ACL tear in his rookie season. Before the injury, he managed to average 5.8 yards per carry in seven games, giving fans optimism for his future with the team.

Unfortunately for the organization, a combination of a poor offense around Hall and him not possessing the same elite burst as in his rookie season, the 24-year-old has yet to record a 1,000-yard rushing season in his first three seasons. Hall continues to play a huge role in the offensive passing attack, catching 165 passes for 1,400 yards. But in terms of building the Jets’ roster for the future, Hall may not be part of the mix.

Now, the struggling franchise must consider all of its options with the young running back, as he is set to become a free agent after the season. While he may not command a huge market due to him being on his last year of his rookie deal, there is still a chance that a title contender could use him this season. One team that makes sense for Hall is the Chicago Bears, who currently lack juice in their run game.

Depending on when Allen returns from his knee injury, the one-two punch of the former Wisconsin standout and Davis could become a viable and cheap run game for the Jets. Moving off of Hall before he becomes a free agent also makes sense for New York, considering that they could use the draft capital from the trade to select a satellite back to replace Hall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
