The Lions’ offense has already produced plenty of touchdowns, and I’m going back to the well. Here are my three favorite anytime TD bets for Detroit’s matchup with the Jets.
Touchdown bets are always fun to place, especially when your team has one of the best offenses in the NFL like the Detroit Lions. Last week, there were 10 touchdowns scored in the Bills-Lions game, including eight different touchdown scorers. Here are my top three players I believe will find the end zone on Sunday during the Lions vs. Jets game.
Amon-Ra St. Brown (-125)
Unfortunately, the value on this bet isn’t as juicy as it has been the first two weeks. St. Brown has found the end zone four times over the last two games, scoring two touchdowns in each of Detroit’s first two games this season.
St. Brown leads the NFL in receptions and is also tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns. He leads the NFL in red-zone targets with six and has the most red-zone receptions with five.
If you were to just look at the stats, it appears the Jets have been one of the better teams in the NFL at preventing receiving touchdowns, having allowed only three through two games. However, New York’s first two opponents were the Titans and Packers, two teams that have struggled to start the season.
I expect St. Brown to find the end zone yet again this week.
Kenyon Sadiq (+400)
The price is a little bigger here, but the value seems to be there. Detroit has been one of the worst teams in the NFL at defending tight ends, giving up four receiving touchdowns to four different tight ends through the first two weeks.
Sadiq does have one touchdown this season, but it came on a jet sweep. While he hasn’t caught a touchdown yet, he has already shown that he can get into the end zone in multiple ways.
Another positive factor is that Jets starting tight end Mason Taylor has been ruled out, potentially paving the way for the rookie to see more action.
At +400, Sadiq is the long-shot play I’m most interested in this week.
Jameson Williams (+160)
Jameson Williams might be one of the most obvious players to score for the Lions this week, yet he has not found the end zone this season.
Last season, Williams found the end zone seven times and has the big-play ability to score from anywhere on the field. The Jets have already ruled out starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, which could give Williams an opportunity to break free for a deep pass.
Last week against the Bills, Williams ran a deep crossing route where he was wide open and would have had a clear path to the end zone. Unfortunately, Jared Goff had no protection and was sacked immediately.
If Goff had another second to throw, Williams likely would have found himself scoring six.
Overall
The safest bet is clearly St. Brown, as he has already scored four times this season. If you’re feeling a little riskier, Sadiq might be the play based on the Lions’ inability to defend tight ends.
Williams, on the other hand, is simply too explosive of a playmaker to be held without a touchdown for much longer. As a degenerate gambler like me would say, he is way overdue.
