The New York Jets have been amid a massive staff shakeup by head coach Aaron Glenn after the team went 3-14 in his first season as head coach. Glenn fired nine assistants from his staff following the 2025 campaign. Glenn still is expected to call defensive plays, particularly with the hire of inexperienced Brian Duker at DC, but Glenn leaned on credible and considerable experience in his hire on offense. The Jets announced on Wednesday that they’re handing the keys over to former NFL coach Frank Reich to run the show as offensive coordinator.
It comes eight days after firing offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand following an unacceptable offensive performance through 2025. New York’s new offensive playcaller comes with head coach experience from two different teams, with stints coaching the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. Jets fans may also be familiar with Reich from his playing days, which didn’t go great, but those can often be great teachers. Reich got his first job in the NFL as an intern with the Colts in 2006. His first coordinator position came in 2016 with the Philadelphia Eagles, after which he was hired by Indianapolis to run the show in 2019 and was there until he was fired midseason in 2022. He moved on to the Panthers but only lasted one season.
Here is the full story from Jets Roundtable writer Dylan Feltovich on the major hire for Glenn and what Reich brings to the table with his experience.
Reich might not have had the makeup of an NFL head coach, but his offensive playcalling prowess is undeniable. Reich was instrumental in the Eagles’ Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots, led by backup quarterback Nick Foles in 2017.
