After allegedly testing positive for THC, the embattled Kansas City standout faces 30 days behind bars, say court documents.
The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to rebound in 2026 after a season to forget last year. But doing so will require a lot of improvements and for a lot of fortune to break the team’s way.
The most recent example of that not going to plan is again with wide receiver Rashee Rice, who reportedly is back in the public eye for legal troubles.
For more on Rice’s probation violation and what it means for his immediate future, Chiefs Roundtable writer Bob McCullough has the latest.
Initial reporting on the incident came from NBCDFW in The Dallas-Fort Worth area, whose reporters obtained documents of a trial docket which cites Rice having tested positive for THC.
In doing so, the court documents say Rice violated his probation, which was tied to a multi-vehicle crash from March 2024.
During that incident, he was found to be speeding at nearly 120 miles per hour. An arrest warrant was issued following the crash, at which time he turned himself in to authorities.
Rice served a six-game suspension last year tied to the charges for which he pled guilty. The league found that this situation violated the NFL’s code of conduct policy.
It’s unclear, as of now, if this recent development will result in further league discipline. But the legal discipline is set for 30 days in jail, with a release scheduled for June 16.
If served in full, that means that Rice will miss the Chiefs’ OTAs and mandatory minicamp sessions which are all scheduled between May 26 and June 11.
Not the start to the season that the Chiefs, nor Rice, were preparing to undergo.
