Free agent CB Rasul Douglas plans to sign a one-year deal worth up to $3.8 million with the Washington Commanders.
The Miami Dolphins are losing one of their top players in the secondary after failing to re-sign free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas, who will now head to play for the Washington Commanders.
He plans to sign a one-year deal worth up to $3.8 million per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The move comes after Douglas signed with the Dolphins following roster cuts last season and made 15 appearances for Miami.
The deal fills a need for the Commanders, one that adds a proven veteran presence in their secondary.
Douglas became essential for the Dolphins after starting the year behind Jack Jones and Storm Duck. Injuries opened the door in Week 1 for him to step in and eventually end the season as the top corner.
To read more about the major addition to the secondary, here is the full story from Commanders Roundtable writer Ahmed Ghafir.
Douglas finished the 2025 season with 62 tackles, 13 passes defensed, two interceptions and a sack.
He has a total 21 interceptions and 91 pass breakups over his 10-year career in 135 games since being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2017.
For Miami, they lose their top guy in the secondary in a major turnover period of front office and roster overhaul.
What was already a thinning cornerback room will now have to lean much more on youth next season.
It will likely thrust first round rookie Chris Johnson into an immediate Week 1 starting role, and depth will remain a concern behind him.
