The two-time Pro Bowler surpasses Saquon Barkley as the NFL's highest-paid running back per year.
The Atlanta Falcons have officially reshaped the running back market and ensured to it that their star wouldn’t test that elsewhere.
They awarded running back Bijan Robinson a three-year extension worth up to $75 million with $51 million guaranteed that will make him the highest paid back in NFL history.
The extension ends Robinson’s weeklong hold-in at training camp and is expected to return Tuesday afternoon.
Only rookie Jeremiyah Love's deal with the Arizona Cardinals surpasses Robinson’s guarantee as he became the second RB ever to be guaranteed over $40 million.
His new annual average of $22.25 million races past Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley as he now becomes the league’s top paid back on a yearly basis.
To read more about the record-setting extension and what it means for Atlanta, here is the full story from Falcons Roundtable writer Michael Brauner.
His production makes it clear why Atlanta wanted to lock this up sooner rather than later.
Robinson led the league with 2,298 scrimmage yards last season and finished fourth in rushing yards with 1,478.
His three-year career in the NFL has seen him record 805 carries for 3,910 rushing yards, 198 catches, 1,738 receiving yards, and 34 touchdowns.
His deal is in line with the new era Falcons who are betting on their younger core after extending Drake London, Kyle Pitts Sr. and Matthew Bergeron earlier this offseason.
But now, their No. 8 pick from 2023 is locked up to anchor an offense under new coach Kevin Stefanski and coordinator Tommy Rees.
