Giants' Malik Nabers faces an uncertain road to recovery after undergoing a second procedure on his knee.
The New York Giants initially didn’t seem too concerned about the second knee surgery for star receiver Malik Nabers, but there are always risks to surgery, and the road to recovery isn’t always that simple. Nabers went back to remove scar tissue that was making his knee stiff after an initial surgery following a right ACL and meniscus tear, both of which had to be repaired after suffering the injury last September. Nabers wasn’t at OTAs and is instead rehabbing at the facility each day as the Giants hope his return is sooner rather than later.
When he was first scheduled for the surgery, the thought was that he would be good to go for Week 1, but that seems a bit less certain, as does a training camp return that seems rather unlikely. The goal for the organization is to get him on the field sometime during that time frame, and New York will have to move forward preparing for the season opener without him. In addition, they are now dealing with a new fright, as offensive tackle Andrew Thomas is now dealing with a shoulder injury that is lingering, leaving a lot of star power up in the air for the Giants and a question of talent surrounding quarterback Jaxson Dart that was supposed to be there.
To read more about the latest injury updates and whether there’s cause for concern, here is the full story from Giants Roundtable writer Matthew Schmidt.
Should there be problems with Nabers and Thomas, that would leave Dart without his top target and major source of protection, with no real equals on the roster to fill either void. Nabers’ is certainly dealing with a more serious situation, and as coach John Hargbaugh points out, the first of his career to this magnitude.
