Los Angeles Rams Promote Rising Star to New Offensive Coordinator cover image

The Los Angeles Rams settled on their replacement for offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur.

The Los Angeles Rams went through a process of interviews to find their next offensive coordinator but ultimately will be keeping the hire inside the building. The Rams are set to promote passing game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase to replace Mike LaFleur at OC, who left to take the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals. In addition, Los Angeles elevated quarterback coach Dave Ragone to co-offensive coordinator/QB coach.

It wasn’t sure whether the Rams would retain Scheelhaase for the 2026 season as he interviewed for five head coach openings during the hiring cycle with the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens. And while the team did interview outside candidates, they had a strong internal candidate in Scheelhaase, who they may not keep past this next season as he’s viewed as a rising star. He can now keep the offense around Matt Stafford one that he’s familiar with while tooling it in his own way.

Here is the full story from Rams Roundtable writer James Brizuela on the exciting promotion.

With Stafford entering his last NFL season, it makes sense to keep consistency there while rewarding the potential of Scheelhaase. Los Angeles also brought on Kliff Kingsbury as a senior offensive assistant after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders. It wasn’t clear whether Kingsbury would assume the coordinator role with the Rams, but he will now work under Scheelhaase as two strong offensive minded young coaches who will hope to help lead the team back – and past – the NFC Championship Game.
