The Jets secure a cornerstone for their rebuild, rewarding the durable former Wisconsin standout with a lucrative extension to protect Geno Smith and stabilize an evolving front line.

After a season in which the team featured one of the most stable offensive lines in the NFL, the New York Jets are extending one of their most steady contributors along the unit.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the team has extended offensive lineman Joe Tippmann on a 4-year, $62 million agreement.

For more on New York's decision to extend Tippmann, Jets Roundtable writer Dylan Feltovich has a deeper dive on the deal.

Tippmann, a second-round draft pick in 2023, has lined up at both center and right guard for the Jets, including starting 44 consecutive games since entering the league. The ironman offensive lineman has proven to be both versatile and durable over his tenure, earning him guaranteed money on his deal through the 2028 season.

Pro Football Focus (PFF) credited the former Wisconsin Badgers lineman with only 29 pressures surrendered in 2025, playing for a hapless Jets offense.

In receiving his second pro deal, he joins other celebrated Wisconsin products such as David Edwards and Tyler Biadasz to receive lucrative deals ahead of the 2026 NFL Season.

The Jets are looking to expedite their otherwise slow-moving rebuild process and cornerstone players like Tippmann are a key to doing so. With quarterback Geno Smith now at the helm, one of the most sacked quarterbacks in each of the last two seasons (the most sacked in 2025), bolstering offensive line play is an absolute must in order to get things turned around for New York.

Tippmann joins center Josh Myers, right tackle Armand Membou, and left tackle Olu Fashanu as the most established players along the Jets' protection unit.

A competition is expected at left guard with last year's starter, John Simpson, signing with the Baltimore Ravens in free agency.
