Cameron Jordan is returning to New Orleans on a one-year deal, coming back for a record 16th season with the Saints.
The New Orleans Saints made a major move on Tuesday, as star defensive end Cam Jordan is set to return to the Saints on a one-year deal laden with incentives, keeping the longest-tenured player in franchise history in Black and Gold for a 16th season.
The news came following a visit on Tuesday with the team and comes months after Jordan became a free agent at 36 years old when his prior deal voided. And despite acquiring defensive end Tyree Wilson from the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, they never cut the cord with Jordan.
Despite being an aging star, Jordan played in all 17 games for New Orleans last season and recorded 10.5 sacks. Criticisms of his age doesn’t exactly hold up with his on-field production.
He rejoins an edge rusher room with Carl Granderson, Chase Young, and Wilson but is the proven anchor, and what he means to the Saints defense is irreplicable. He holds the franchise record with 132 sacks, 175 tackles for loss, and is fourth all-time in pass deflections – incredibly impressive at his position.
To read more about the franchise legend remaining in New Orleans, here is the full story from Saints Roundtable writer Nick Crain.
The Saints drafted Jordan in the first round out of Cal back in 2011 and has remained a crucial franchise cornerstone as the team lost longtime head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees a few years back. His impact on the team will continue as his desire to finish his career in New Orleans is now all but finalized.
