The reigning Offensive Player of the Year is locked up with the Seattle Seahawks in a historic contract extension.

The Seattle Seahawks had some business to take care of with superstar wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year after an electric 2025 season on the way to winning the Super Bowl with the Seahawks. Seattle drafted Smith-Njigba in 2023 in the first round at No. 20 overall and was entering the final year of his rookie contract which made him eligible for an extension. The Seahawks not only awarded him that, but they made him the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history with this record deal. ESPN reports that Seattle and Smith-Njigba agreed to a four-year, $168.6 million contract that averages $42.15 million per year with other $120 million in guarantees.

Both of those metrics are record breaking for wide receivers in league history. It keeps Smith-Njigba with the Seahawks, contractually speaking, through the 2031 season. And it is certainly an eye-popping number that will completely reset the market on receiver numbers for elite pass catchers. One to take notice of is Los Angeles Rams’ divisional rival star Puka Nacua, who could work towards an extension this offseason – and would obviously use this extension as a barometer. But it keeps the most talented offensive skill player in the league last season with the reigning champions.

Here is the full story from Seahawks Roundtable writer Mike Fisher on the historical deal for Smith-Njigba.

Smith-Njigba earned those Offensive Player of the Year honors while recording a franchise-record 1,793 receiving yards, good for eighth-best in a single season in NFL history.
