Seahawks lock down Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon, securing crucial pieces for future Super Bowl runs and building a formidable core.

The Seattle Seahawks have made a decisive move to secure part of their young core for the long term, as the team announced that they have exercised the fifth-year options on wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

Smith-Njigba has steadily developed into a reliable and dynamic presence in the passing game, and was one of, if not the best wide receiver in the league this past season.

His emergence has added another layer to Seattle’s aerial attack, giving the team a dependable target in critical situations.

On the defensive side, Witherspoon has quickly established himself as one of the most physical and instinctive young cornerbacks in the league. His aggressive style of play, combined with strong coverage ability, has made him a tone-setter for the Seahawks’ defense. Whether lining up in coverage or stepping up in run support, Witherspoon embodies the identity Seattle wants on that side of the ball.

Both of these players are guys who are all but guaranteed to get gargantuan contracts when the time comes. And while both of their prices may be pretty steep because of how they have been playing, I'm sure Seattle will be more than willing to pay up.

JSN set Seahawks record in receiving yards and receptions with 1,793 and 119, respectively. He also put up 10 touchdowns to double his career total on his way to taking home the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year Award.

As for Witherspoon, he racked up 72 total tackles, seven passes defended, and an interception while playing in just 12 games due to a knee injury. He was named to one of the All-Pro teams for the first time in his career, which could very well be the first of many.

Both of the young stars played pivotal roles in leading the Seahawks to their win against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, and that obviously did not go unnoticed by the team.

As the Seahawks prepare for the seasons ahead, keeping these two rising stars in the fold ensures that the team’s future remains firmly on track after the franchise's second ever Vince Lombardi Trophy.
